This Trans Awareness Month, we would like to highlight the work of Mikah Amani, a Black, trans-masculine musician and organizer based in Miami, FL. We have the honor of working with Mikah Amani to bring his collaborative zine, “Leonidas,” to the hands of our Birth Justice community in Florida and beyond.
Mikah shared: “I created this zine to share the stories of black queer and trans people living in Miami. All of the participants in this zine were chosen and interviewed with that goal in mind. I’m so grateful that SBJN and Birth Center Equity are willing to help me distribute these stories. Transness is aligned with Birth Justice and always will be! I honor and recognize other black trans folks such as @kaydenxofficial, who are doing the work of showing us what it means to be a trans parent and birthing person. I hope that the distribution of “Leonidas” through this platform will expose people to new important about the trans experience, and allow them room to think about how it aligns with chosen family, birth, and parenting.”
Above are some previews of the zine, which are FREE and available to order this month. Tap the link for the order form.
Special thanks to Birth Center Equity for your support of this vital work!
